Concert Review - The Vamps

Hey everyone,

I'm doing something different in today's post, in fact this is my first ever concert review (so be nice please) and also for the first time on this blog the post isn't about 5SOS *everyone gasps in shock* Yes, I went to see a band called The Vamps on Monday and I thought it would be good practice for writing reviews for when I write my review of the 5SOS concert in May. So lets just get into shall we?

7:00pm - My sister and I enter the venue, scurrying through the masses of people, filled with just about the same amount of excitement as we have, trying to find our seats for the show. When we finally get seated with the help of the lovely venue staff we realise just how close we are to the stage. We will literally be able to see the sweat on the boys' faces (a disgusting thought but as we later find out, entirely true.)

Around 7:30pm the lights dim low and bursting onto the stage are four baby faced looking boys, the first support act. An American band called The Tide who have recently been signed to The Vamps record label. They kick off their set with a fast paced cover of Neon Trees song Animal. In my opinion an overly covered song but even with that these boys' enthusiasm for music and their instruments was clear to see. Moving on to then play three original songs that although I had never heard before, the upbeat sound and easy to sing along to lyrics made me feel like I knew the songs and all four boys had the whole crowd pumped, encouraging jumping and dancing, which unusually for a support act, the crowd participated in and the screams were loud enough to make you think these boys were the main act. With their personalities shining through not just by their playing but also by the personal anecdote that was told, making me realise that these boys are kind of like 5SOS when they were just starting out. I can say that they will have a bright future ahead of them.

About 10 minutes later the next supporting act emerged onto the stage, Union J. The boyband of the night had a more simplistic set but still had the buzzing energy making the atmosphere in the crowd go wild with screams and singing along to the very catchy Tonight We Live Forever, a favourite of mine. The boys then told of how they wanted to do a short acoustic of a famous boybands song on every tour date and tonight they chose One Direction Story of my Life, much to the delight of the majority teenage girl filled arena. Going on to then play four of their other songs and finishing with the upbeat balled You Got It All, it is safe to say that Union J had really put on a tremendous performance and definitely had us all geared up for of course the main act who everyone had turned out to see.

With the atmosphere in the arena buzzing it wasn't a long until the lights once again dim down and everyone knew just what was coming. Running on to the stage to start of their set with the energetic Wildheart, The Vamps had already captured and engaged the audience. With a set filled with a mixture of upbeat and acoustic songs. The Vamps really did have something for everybody.

The boys also did a selection of covers, from a mash up of Uptown Funk/Shake It Off/ We Can't Stop to My Chemical Romance's Teenagers, it is clear that they can really sing and play any genre. Along with their on stage presence, the boys had video clips of an insight into each members life - from Brad and his dog to James and his cat, what girl could resist falling in love? After each clip, that individual boy came on and showed off their talents individually. Tristan's drum solo was electric and Connor's version of Sum 41's In Too Deep got the crowd jumping and dancing. They also all are capable of switching instruments, from Brad going from guitar to drums to piano and in the intro of Lovestruck all of them playing a drum of some kind, it really is evident that these boys have an abundance of talent.

All in all, this show is really one that you need to get tickets to go an see because the amount of energy and passion the boys have put in to make it amazing has really paid off and I can tell that when they come here again I will for sure be queuing up to get my tickets.
